As you know that path is a way or direction to
any destination. If you are going to a restaurant, to a college, or to meet
your friend, you must know the path of restaurant, you must know the path of
your college, and you must know the path of your friend’s home. If you do not
know the right path, you will waste your time by asking from different people,
or if any one guides you wrongly, you cannot reach your destination in time.
Similarly computer files and folders have their
own paths. Every file, every folder has its separate paths, which shows their
destinations. Now a days by using Microsoft Windows new versions, everything
become so easy that an ordinary internet user do not know about the paths.
In this article I will try to guide you about
the paths, and show you that how can we use the path. If you are planning to be
a web designer or computer programmer, you should have clear understanding of
computer paths.
First of all every computer has a hard disk,
and every hard disk is sub divided into drives like C: drive, D: drive, E:
drive etc. you store your files in these drives.
You create separate folders, and place
different files in it. Let’s suppose I make a folder in E: drive by the name of
“My first folder”, and then inside this folder I make another folder “My second
folder”, and inside it another folder “My third folder”. Now I have three
different folders in drive E: one inside another. Now I open “My third folder”.
You just keep an eye on the address bar of your explorer.
This address bar is basically showing the
actual route of your folder, this route is called the path. This path is
showing the destination of your files and folders. But this not the way to
write actual path when you are using in any website designing or in any
programming. now I will tell you that how to write actual path.
How to write actual Path?
It is very easy to write path of any file,
starting from drive letter (C:, D: or E:, etc) replace the arrow sign with back
slash “\”. For example if we follow above picture we can write the path of “My
third folder” as “E:\My first folder\My second folder\My third
folder”
This is the complete path of any folder or
file. You can see this path also when you just click on your explorer address
bar, (Compare above and below diagram)
By using this path you can access your files
and folders directly from anywhere. Write this path in “Start” menu and your
files will open quickly. Using right paths you can directly open your hidden
files without changing option “Show hidden files”
