How to rename multiple files in 1 second?

Many times we have to change our file names according to our need. It is very easy if we have to rename 4 to 5 files, but the question is; if we have more than 10 files, more than 100 files or more than 1000 files then how can we rename thousands of files. It will take a long time to rename all of them one by one.

When we transfer our pictures from smart phone or camera to our computer, they have their own names like DCM100010 etc. And we always change the name of those pictures according to situation. For example if we have 500 pictures of our last trip to a lake. We will rename these files like Lake-Aug15-01, Lake-Aug15-02, Lake-Aug15-03, etc and then we have more than 300 files which belongs to our family we rename those files like family-01, family-02, family-03, etc.

Similarly the web designers and computer programmers work with various image files especially when they are building a website. It is very difficult for human being to remember file names. And it will be very easy if all files are named easily and in a proper sequence. They can use loops to manipulate files. So the question is again that how we can rename thousands of files in one go.
